Nestled in the Andes with sun-drenched Caribbean and Pacific coastlines, Colombia is a place for adventure
Colourful Colombia
Considered a ‘dangerous’ country for so long, Colombia is fast becoming the top place to tick off your travel list. And for good reason! My first impression of Colombia on arriving in Cartagena, tired and jetlagged, was that it was the most colourful place I’d ever seen! Pastel-coloured houses in blue, yellow, and pink were everywhere, looking vibrant against a sky so blue you feel you could drink it. Cotton wool clouds drifted across it and the warmth was as welcoming as the local people.
There’s so much to see and do in Colombia. From the eye-popping colours of Cartagena in the north, with its fort and cobblestoned maze of an Old Town (so well preserved you feel like you have stepped back in time), to steamy Cali and its head-spinning salsa in the south, you’ll need some time to explore it all. Find some of the best coffee in the world in Colombia’s cooler mountains, hike up a glacier and enjoy a soak in the hot springs around Manizales. Get lost in Bogota’s steep streets, find the Lost City, dive in the Caribbean, and witness for yourself the transformation that is Medellin – which has gone from daily street wars in the 1980s to a busy and lively nightlife – and you’ll just be scratching the surface.
