Cheeky Galápagos wildlife, volcanos to scramble up, views to die for and all the coffee and chocolate you want
Enchanting Ecuador
Think of Ecuador and the first thing that comes to mind for many is the Galápagos Islands. And I’ll tell you now, spending any amount of time there is worth every last penny. If the only place you visit in Ecuador is the Galápagos, it will be time and money well spent. You will have stories of blue-footed booby pairs flirting, sea lions sprawled across park benches, and scuttling marine iguanas that you will recounting for decades to come.
But that’s not all there is to Ecuador. Quito’s undulating city with its grand colonial buildings is the second highest capital city in the world, sprawled at the foot of the Pichincha volcano. It’s easy to spend a few days here chilling out. You can barter for souvenirs in the nearby Saturday market at Otavalo, or plant your feet on either side of the equator at the touristy Mitad del Mundo (centre of the world). The coffee is earthy and delicious. The chocolate is rich and intense. And its people will welcome you with open arms.
